NewTek includes an example logo animation scene with the software that uses
lightbeams, just take a look at that. I find that depending on my applications,
I use a variety of different techniques. But a few things to consider using
are procedural textures with falloff rather than image maps, luminosity
mapping, the additive surface attribute, and/or double sided surfaces.
